SUMMARY:Maple Sugaring Time & Victorian Valentine Pop-up Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:February is Maple Sugaring Time at the Dudley Farm Museum \nEvery February\, weather permitting\, volunteers at the Dudley Farm make their way to the maple sugaring house in the woods behind the new Quinnipiac Dawnland Museum and Munger Barn. There\, the century old “cooker” is fired up\, maple sap collected\, and the slow process of turning gallons of maple sap into maple syrup is done the way the Dudley family did it for over 100 years. \nThe sugar house was rebuilt in the 1990’s on the original site\, thanks to the local Rotary Club. If weather cooperates\, wetap some of our trees\, collect the sap that fills the metal buckets\,and demonstrate how the Dudleys produced this valuable product in a traditional way. We welcome visitors to join us to learn more about how syrup was made 100 years ago. You can even help out if you’d like. Warm yourself by a wood fire\, listen to a few tall tales and watch the watery sap slowly turn into liquid gold. \nThis year’s Maple Sugaring Demonstration is schedule for the weekends of February 15-16 and 22-23? from 10-2 Saturdays and 11-3 on Sundays. Check our web site at www.Dudleyfarm.com. The Dudley Farm Museum\, 2351 Durham Rd\, Guilford\, CT 06437 \nVictorian Valentine Pop-up Exhibit \n \nCome to the Farmhouse Museum for a Victorian Valentine pop-up exhibit. Pop-up valentines using German and Austrian paper engineering designs were especially popular from the 1890’s through the 1920’s. But valentines of the era did not always convey Cupid’s sweet side. Vinegar Valentines\, aka Penny Dreadfuls or Mock Valentines\, were cheeky Victorian cards sent anonymously.

SUMMARY:Dudley Foundation Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Dudley Foundation Annual Meeting  \n  \nMembers are invited to gather for a pot luck lunch at our annual meeting in the yellow Munger Barn. Bring a dish and hear the latest news from the farm\, enjoy good food and share fellowship. This year’s guest speaker will be Emily Ciffone\, Program Director at New Pond Farm in Redding\, CT. \nTo renew your membership or to join contact: dudleyfarm.com/join. RSVP required. \nDudley Farm recently updated our Strategic Plan to establish goals for the next five to ten years. A key initiative is to expand our community outreach with school programs and camps focused on history and agricultural life in 19th century New England. We hope you will join us to hear Emily Ciffone share insights on the development and success of New Pond Farm Education Center. Board Members found much to be inspired by on a recent visit to New Pond Farm. \n  \nAbout New Pond Farm \n \n  \nMore than 50 years ago\, actress and environmentalist Carmen Mathews had a dream for the land she loved. She wanted her 102 acres of pastures\, woodlands\, and wetlands to serve as an oasis where people of all ages could connect with the natural world. Carmen began by inviting urban youth to a summer camp. Building on this initial small and personal summer program\, New Pond Farm Education Center opened its doors in 1985. Since then\, it has evolved into a comprehensive environmental teaching facility with a model working farm. It offers many school programs and classes for children\, teens\, adults\, and families.
