Come to the Barn for some old time storytelling with Carolyn Stearns and music by Joe Flood. Spinning Tales is a free family event. Carolyn Stearns is the kind of storyteller who roamed New England towns 200 years ago. Her family tales of Revolutionary ships lost at sea, the man who painted Lincoln and the ghost of New Haven will ignite your imagination and transport you to a time when oral storytelling and music were the only entertainments.

Carolyn Stearns Bio

Storyteller, author, public speaker and dairy farmer, Carolyn brings to life the stories of New England’s past. She lives on a family dairy farm in Northeast Connecticut steeped in 11 generations of history—good fodder for her tales. Her stories enliven imaginations through the ancient art of performance storytelling. She is the author of “How Far Is Safe?” and the CD, “George Henry Story—the Man Who Painted Lincoln.”

 

 

Joe Flood Bio

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Flood has traveled a long musical road. He worked the streets of Paris with the Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band and written songs with The Band. He has released five albums under his own name and been featured prominently on several albums. His 2015 release, “Songs From the Bend in the River” is a tribute to three 19th Century songwriters from Middletown, Connecticut where Flood grew up. His latest album, “All Roads Lead to the Blues,” was released in October of 2021 and explores the connections of blues to Afro-Cuban, gospel, rock ’n’ roll, and country music. He teaches at Baldwin Middle School.
