Museum Director, Dudley Farm, Guilford, CT

20 hours/week. Saturday hours required June-October. Flexibility around work hours with remote option.

$30000/year with no benefits

The Dudley Farm Museum is a 10 acre farm preserved to the year 1900 with a farmhouse, two large barns and 9 other outbuildings. It is run by volunteers as the non-profit Dudley Foundation.  We opened 5 new exhibits in the past two years including the Quinnipiac Dawnland Museum and are trying to grow our school visit program.  We had over 2000 visitors in 2024 and host a Saturday Farmers Market, a Holiday Craft Market and Maple Sugaring demonstration.

 We are looking for a Museum Director with experience interpreting history for a general audience through various means: in-person tours, social media posts, and/or exhibit development.  This person will also be the spokesperson for the Museum and the contact for visitors, funders and the media.  Position includes management of significant collections of textiles, farm equipment and other artifacts.

Day to day management of the Dudley Farm Museum

        Respond promptly and courteously to email and phone inquiries

Offer Museum tours during open hours

Recruit, manage and nurture volunteer docents

Ensure Museums and grounds are in good condition for visitors

Network with local, state and national organizations

               Collaborate with Guilford Historical Organizations

               Engage with CLM and ALFHAM and other organizations.

Collections management

               Process incoming and de-accessioned items according to museum policies

               Ensure items in collections are maintained in appropriate conditions

Identify objects that should move to or from active display, or are in need of restoration

         Maintain objects database  

Collaborate with Board Committees on publicity, developing programs, and fundraising

Depending on interest and skill may include drafting email newsletter, planning Harvest Day or grant-writing.

Experience and Skills

               -Background in and passion for American history

                              Experience communicating historical interpretations

                              Interest in regional Native American life and history

               -High degree of organization and self-direction

               -Capacity for productive collaboration

                -Excellent written and spoken communication

               -Ability to engage positively with all ages and identities

               -Strong project management skills and capacity for multi-tasking
